|
The Virtual Careers Centre (VCC) is a new concept developed through the advances in MNAs, and it provides technology-based careers services over networks. It involves high volumes of multimedia information, facilitates the use of various communication media, and will impact upon many sectors of society - especially education and industry. The VCC is hence a typical illustrative application area of MNAs.The proposed research will focus on an important, and sometimes controversial, aspect of VCC, the remote multimedia interview (RMI) service, which enables selection/guidance interviews to be conducted over networks through a combination of communication media including video, voice and data.This collaborative project involves interdisciplinary academic researchers, MNA technology providers and VCC service providers. The aims are to research into human factors concerning RMI, to develop generalisable solutions to human interactions in multimedia/network communications, and to assist the creation of new IT products for RMI and a new market for the emerging information highway. The project consists of two main inter-linked strands: cognitive study of human factors in RMI, and development of multimedia user interface for RMI. The work will lead to a range of deliverables beneficial to the MNA community, the cognitive science community, and VCC service providers and users.
