Summary on Grant Application Form
The research will provide data of the flow, chemical composition and thermal feilds in impinging turbulent flows. In parallel, it will refine the computational models of these cases taking as its starting point transport models for the turbulent stresses, mass frictions and heat fluxes employing 'realziable' closures. A particular phenomenon for attention (discovered, visually, at Canridge by Dr Zhang by not hitherto documented quantitatively) will be the bi-madla behaviour that may arise with a premixed gas supply wherein, depending on the method of startup, either a disc- or ring-type flames may be produced. Comparable mearsurements and computations will also be made of impinging turbulent diffusion flames as contribution towards remedying both the lack of comprehensively documented test cases and moderb attempts at their numerical prediction.
