Summary on Grant Application Form
I am interested in developing algorithms for computing very large P-Groups and their associated Lie rings. Recently Prof. Newman (Australian National University) and I computed the largest 2 generator 6-Engel Lie algebra over Z7. It has class 29 and dimension 23789. This implies that R(2,7) has class at most 29 and order at most 723789. This calculation used a more compact data structure than had previously been used in this type of computation. I want to introduce a similar data structure into group calculations, with a view to computing R(2,7).
