Summary on Grant Application Form
An apparatus for the preparation of single wall carbon nanotubes will be constructed. Multi- and single-wall tubes will be filled with materials for various purposes. The initial materials proposed for the fillings are : (a) continuous crystal of pure metals such as Fe, Ag, Cu, Zen and H, their electrical conductivity (nanowires) and magnetic properties will be studied; (b) carboxylated nanotubes will be further functionalised and the physical and chemical properties will be explored; (c) metal crystals and metals oxides as mesoporous materials for selective heterogeneous catalysts; (d) solutions of homogeneous catalysts where the catalyst molecules are trapped in bottle-shaped nanotubes - thereby giving heterogenised homogeneous systems via molecular filtration.
