Endothermic gas phase reactions are usually performed in large costly furnaces in order to supply the process heat requirement. It has been shown at Newcastle that if one surface of a plate reactor is coated with a thin film of combustion catalyst, then the principle, an endothermic reaction can be performed on the other surface, and thereby make large capital cost savings.While the catalytic combustion of dilute hydrocarbon/air mixtures has already been extensively studied (e.g. for gas turbine combustors, VOC destruction) the combustion kinetic data are not available over the wide range of conditions which must be considered in formulating a reliable design/operational model. It is the objective of this project to provide this data and the model.
