Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of the visit is to strengthen and develop further the existing research collaboration between the Communications Research Labs of Japan and the University of Strathclyde in the area of advanced optical code division multiple access systems. The three month period will permit significant discussions to take place in opening up new common research activities. Both institutions have developed novel approaches to implementing optical networks based on code division principles. The next phase will explore the strengths of each individual approach - both through experimental proof-of-principal demonstrations of key sub-system functionality and simulation of system performance - in order to harness the advantages of both to achieve a more advanced technique. The applicant will spend the bulk of the visit in the laboratories carrying out new and supporting existing experimental activities. A demonstration of a new system implementation using novel code sequences will be undertaken. Conclusions will be drawn and future research direction identified.
