Summary on Grant Application Form
Three-dimensional analysis of mixing in complex tidal systems requires unrealsitic computational costs and effort. We propose to use spectral analysis in order to develop a multi-mode mathematical model for tidal dynamics and mixing which by the use of a novel moving boundary finite element technique can be applied to real water-ways. The model will be capable of producing information in all three-dimensions with optimum costs. We propose to use existing salt intrusion data in the Tay estuary to verify the developed model.
