Summary on Grant Application Form
A collaborative project between the Universities of Dundee and Edinburgh in which wave tank experiments utilising the Particle Image Velocimetry and Laser Induced Fluorescence measurement techniques will be used to study the effects of bed topography and undisturbed density fields on the generation and development of internal waves. Interactions between internal and surface waves will be examined with a view to identifying conditions that may lead to extreme kinematics. The significance of the experimental results to the loading of risers will be assessed by means of a computer simulation and laboratory validation experiments.Comparisons will be made with the results of field studies, sponsored by HSE and NWAG.
