Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal aims to provide a low temperature attachment to interface with an existing CCD diffractometer. The ability to carry out low temperature structure determinations will enable a larger number of crystal structures and solid state data to be obtained concerning the phase behaviour of hydrocarbon mixtures and polymorphic drug systems. A studentship is requested in order to pursue studies in ammonia complexation by sulfonated macrocyclic and polymeric hosts with a view to developing novel ammonia sensors and waste remediation methodologies. This project also relies heavily on low temperature X-ray crystallography and the individual appointed will have primary access to the X-ray system, with special emphasis on low Temperature studies.
