Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research programme is aiming at a better understanding of the complex and dynamic processes involved in the high latitude ionosphere and their effect on radio propagation by employing the Imaging Riometer for Ionspheric Studies (IRIS) system. A channel sounder known as DAMSON (Doppler And Multipath Sounding Network) has been developed by an international team which includes the DRA at Malvern. At least one of the riometer beams is well within the measured volume of this HF link. Comparison of the two data sets (DAMSON and IRIS) which is part of the objectives of the proposed research programme will lead to valuable results and development of the existing channel simulators prediction models.
