The proposed project aims to improve design procedures for naturally ventilated buildings by taking account of unsteady effects on envelope flows i.e: the process by which air enters a building under the action of wind and bouyancy. The envelope and its opening are the most important elements in the design of naturally ventilated buildings. If the envelope flows are wrong, the ventialtion system as a whole will probably fail. Three seperate improvements to design tools are proposed (one theoretical, two experimental) relating to the effects of wind turbulance. Unsteadiness in th envelope flows can have an important bearing on design procedures for the internal flows and the project also aims to look at two aspects of this.
