Summary on Grant Application Form
Previous organometallic model studies involving zerovalent platinum complexes have shown the potential of such complexes to model the HDS of thiophenes and alkyl thiophenes at the molecular level. It is proposed to I) see how these systems behave at temperatures closer to industrial HDS, and ii) to develop new polymeric phosphido-platinum materials which can tolerate the high temperatures, and levels of H2S likely to be present, during commercial deep HDS. The eventual aim is to develop technology which can form the basis for practical catalyst designs for the deep HDS of diesel fuels. Additionally, we expect to gain insight into the fundamental mechanisms of HDS for sterically hindered sulfur heterocycles which will help to advance HDS catalysis generally.
