A key element of this research is to evolve a computer model which accurately represents the three dimensional field above an array of writing head gaps. Each gap is generating its own 3D field which is changing dynamically as a result of a different data stream on each track of the tape. At the location of any one reading head in the reading array the crossfeed noise field is the sum of a number of contributory components, each of different magnitude coming from a different direction with different frequency components. Each reading head sensor will receive a different total crossfeed from any other sensor at any instant in time. Two principal screening methods will be used in the simulation, 1.e. eddy-current field suppression and by achieving a balance in the field components by equalising magnetic potential in a magnetic feedback arrangement. The computer model will be investigated experimentally using a large scale head and micro thin-film head structures.
