Summary on Grant Application Form
Reactive sintering utilising the high heats of formation available in producing intermetallic compounds will be used to achieve near full densities in parts made by powder metallurgy. The work will involve a fundamental understanding of the reactive sintering process coupled with the production of test samples for magnetic, electrical and mechanical testing. On the basis of these data a simulation will be employed to design a demonstrator solenoid component which will test the robustness of the processing methodology and the actual life performance.
