Summary on Grant Application Form
We will extend our existing model for the flow of suspensions of particles in gas in order to incorporate large scale turbulent effects and transient phenomena. We aim to apply the model to different flow situations and geomteries, with particular emphasis on the analysis of CFBs, downers, pipes of any inclination and entrance and exit zones. The final aim is to develop a model which can be used as a predictive tool.To achieve such a purpose, we aim to identify the mechanisms responsible for the observed behaviour and to interpret the physics behind them. We will then model and incorporate them in the model.Subsequently, model prediction will be compared with experimental results performed at Bradford University using two risers and a downer fully operating in a wide range of flow conditions. The two risers, having different sizes, will furnish answers to question concerning scale-up problems.
