Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed project will investigate the use of CAD to model the fit and drape of garments. Simulations will be based upon a detailed examination of fabric behaviour, subjected to various modes of lading. A preliminary phase of the project will be to use FE techniques to obtain accurate visualizations. From these, it is intended to extract the important determinants of the shape of the garment and to develop a combined geometric and physical model which could be incorporated into a CAD system. To be viable, garment visualizations and related 2D patterns must:1. be produced within an acceptable timeframe.2. be sensitive to fabric characteristics3. provide sufficiently accurate simulations to enable designers and buyers to perform critical sample assessment. The results of the work will be tested by the collaborating companies.
