CAD tools are available for the prediction emissions from PCBs and small subsystems. This requires approximation in the models used. Investigation of the speed/accuracy/model detail trade-off is required before the tools can be confidently used on an arbitrary design. This forms the first part of the programme.Even with simplifications to the models, the level of subsystem that can be modelled is limited. Further simplification is required in the form of hierarchical models, to allow larger systems to be modelled. The second part of the programme will investigate hierarchical models for EMC predicition in larger systems.Validation of the work will be made with measurements on real PCBs, subsystems and systems.
