Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research is concerned with developing fundamental understanding of the dynamics of a novel, aerodynamic method of forming fibrous web structures from short fibre waste. Computational fluid dynamics will be used to model the web forming process which is of simple design, involves no aqueous or chemical treatments and therefore has negligible impact on the environment. The proposed technique is an entirely mechanical method of web-forming and is expected to provide a basis for a new generic technology capable of producing novel, value added products from valuable short waste fibre materials which are currently confined to landfill.
