Summary on Grant Application Form
1) To establish synthetic routes for the preparation of novel metal-nucleobase complexes which retain the ability for intermolecular interactions via base-pair hydrogen bonding. To elucidate the molecular structure of the complexes in the solution- and solid-state using single crystal X-ray crystallography and n.m.r spectroscopy.2) To explore the reactivity of complexes prepared in (1) with unmodified nucleobases with the aim of synthesising self-complementary and non-complementary metallated-dinucleobase sequences. Determine the intermolecular interactions associated with these species in solution and the solid state.3) Evaluate the potential of the compounds prepared in (2) as molecular-based sensing agents for nucleoside phosphate anions.
