Summary on Grant Application Form
To prepare and characterise new macrocycles and mutlidenate ligands involving Te donors. The chemistry of these ligands with groups 8 - 10 metals will be investigated in order to establish the systematics of M-Te bonding in the new compounds. 125Te NMR spectroscopy will be used extensively of monitor both the organic ligand syntheses and the metal ion chemistry. Detailed (spectro) of the Te ligands to accommodate neighbouring oxidation states. Following this, low-valent organometallic and hard, early transition metal halide and oxide/halide (v(iii), Cr(iii), Mo and W (iii), (iv) and (v) ) compounds will be synthesised. Through out this work thorough spectroscopic and structural (single crystal X-ray and EXAFS) studies will be undertaken. It is essential that we undertake the proposed work prior to exploring the potential applications of these compounds.
