Summary on Grant Application Form
We shall conduct an investigation into the properties, behaviour and applications of non-zero-order transverse laser modes propagating in non-linear media. Specifically, the key research areas within the project are:1. An extension of our pioneering work on frequency doubling L-G modes to include those with p?0; explication of the role of orbital angular momentum and of the advantages of using modes for frequency conversion.2. An investigation into how the orbital angular momentum of light influences the behaviour and output characteristics of OPOs and parametric down-conversion.3. An analysis and investigation of the propagation of diffraction free beams within non-linear media.4. A study of the role of orbital angular momentum of light in higher order non-linear processes.
