Summary on Grant Application Form
This is the proposal for Prof. Jonathon Smith from University of Pennsylvania to work in the Network and Operating Systems group within the Cambridge Computer Laboratory. Two types of work are to be carried out. These are investigating a new Application Programming Interface for task scheduling, and investigating a method of providing scalable network bandwidth to applications. The means of investigation in both instances will be experimental, consisting of developing a small prototype system with control parameters which can be varied, measured and evaluated. This topic area and methodology are particularly well-suited to the Computer Laboratory at Cambridge University.
