Summary on Grant Application Form
Funding of a new transient engine test facility has recently been approved by EPSRC and the Ford Motor Company, with grants totalling approximately 300k. This proposal is for the actual research activity itself. New robust control techniques which have been developed over the last few years have so far had little application in IC engine control. It is now timely to use them as the present, largely cut stick, methods are unable to meet the needs of manufacturers to meet both increasingly stringent emissions targets and customer requirements.
