Summary on Grant Application Form
A rapid entry towards the pseudopterosins, a family of marine natural products with therapeutically significant anti inflammatory and analgesic activity, has been developed. Our present synthesis is inefficient and racemic. The proposal outlines a short and enantiospecific route to the pseudopterosins. Key features are 1) a nickel catalysed asymmetric coupling reaction; 2) an enantiospecific union of an organozinc and an aldehyde and 3) a Lewis acid mediated sequential cyclisation.
