Summary on Grant Application Form
The reactions CH(3) + OH = products (CH(3)OH, CH(2)+H(2)O, CH(3)O+H, HCOH+H(2), HCHO+H(2)) and NH(2) + NO = products (N(2) +H(2)O, NNH+OH, N(2)+H+OH, HNNO+H) represent key processes in combustion dynamics. We will harness the power of modern electronic structure theory and that of modern theories of reaction dynamics to provide improved estimates of the rate constants and branching ratios for these two key processes. The work will be carried out in collaboration with Dr. D.Smith of British Gas research Laboratory, with the theory and computational science group at the Daresbury Laboratory and with the research group at the Argonne National Laboratory in the USA.
