Summary on Grant Application Form
An infra-red diode laser will be used to monitor reactants and products in elementary reactions involved in autoignition and in NO(x) control. The autoignition studies derive from recent criticisms of literature data on key reactions and on thermodynamic data. The technique, coupled with the use of laser induced flourescence allows the reactions to be more fully characterised than has been possible hitherto, so that the effects of these criticisms can be fully assessed and definitive parameters determined. The strategy will be to study key reactions so that the characterisation can be fully assessed and then to reinterpret literature data and develop a full set of specific and generic kinetic and thermodynamic data.
