Summary on Grant Application Form
The project is concerned with the fundamental of laser ignition with particular reference to its application in aero engine combustion systems and in the gathering of basic combustion data (e.g. burning velocities). The study will identify and quantify key parameters for sea level and altitude relight of liquid fuelled gas turbine combustors. Fundamental studies will encompass studies of plasma formation in exploding kerosine droplets as well as nascent flame formation and development under controlled conditions of stoichiometry and turbulence in a fan stirred bomb at sub-atmospheric and high pressure for a range of temperatures.
