Summary on Grant Application Form
It is proposed to investigate a potential aldol reaction-based prebiogenesis of RNA and aminoacyl-RNA. The work entails the preparation of a number of achiral biscarbonyl monomers and investigating their solution-phase structure and reactivity at various pH values. A series of dehydrooxazine-2-ones is an additional synthetic target; these compounds have the constitutional potential to be performed by the ring-opening of oxirane carbonitrile and derivatives by amino acids and to participate in the proposed aldolisation giving RNA terminated at its 3'-terminus by an aminocyl group.
