Summary on Grant Application Form |
Linear and cyclic diblock and linear triblock copolymers will be prepared covering two chemical systems: a) from ethylene oxide and 1,2-butylene oxide; b) from ethylene oxide and styrene oxide. At low temperatures the E-blocks are crystalline, the S-blocks are glassy, and the B-blocks are liquid (rubbery). At high temperatures all blocks are liquid. This combination of different chain architectures and physically divergent microphases is expected to yield new and interesting effects. These will be detected by a wide variety of experimental probes, including simultaneous WAXS/SAXS/DSC, SANS, Raman and IR spectroscopy, rheometry and microscopy. The observed effects will be modelled phenomenologically and theoretically.
