Summary on Grant Application Form
The main aim of this project is to produce a computer model which can accurately predict the behaviour of sound simultaneously inside and outside a building or semi-enclosed space. Previously, two separate models have been necessary to predict internal and external sound field by predicting both spatials and temporal acoustic characteristics in diffuse and non-diffuse spaces. The second aim of the project is the establishment of a database of absorption coefficients suitable for use in all sound prediction models. At present absorption data is based upon the assuption that the sound field is diffuse. This is not the case in large of open spaces, hence the absorption data can be a cause of error in noise prediction packages.
