Summary on Grant Application Form
A new high temperature (HTS) superconducting antenna array is proposed. The antenna array has a capability of a number of signal processing functions including beam scanning, channalisation and filtration on any received signal. The array will be demonstrated using HTS thin film materials. A great deal of effort has gone into the development of superconducting materials over the last 10 years and it is paramount that an equivalent effort is out into applications. This antenna array represents a microwave device which cannot be made out of conventional materials and therefore has an excellent potential for serious users in a number of different application areas. The signal processing functions which the array is capable of are the most fundamental requirements of any communications or radar system.
