Summary on Grant Application Form
The development of efficient wings with significant regions of laminar flow can only be achieved if we are able to understand the different mechanisms involved in transition. It is proposed to develop further the PSE method to a stage when it can routinely be used to predict transition in a variety of aerodynamic flows (eg, wings, necelles). In addition to the basic computational method (PSE) additional and indeed crucial input will come from analytical investigations of the receptivity problem. The research will build upon previous collaboration with BAe and DRA and develop tests to be used by industry.
