Summary on Grant Application Form
EPSRC Grant GR/S/55570 has come to an end. The work has developed a technique for semi-automatically identifying the critical yield line patterns for plate and slab structures. The work now proposed is to further develop and refine this technique. The basic process will be used to develop computationally efficient algorithms which will be suitable for use by design professional. It is also proposed to investigate the potential application to design optimisation (as apposed to analysis) of the procedures already developed. This will allow user supplied cost functions to be input as part of the design data. The investigation will include the optimum provision of reinforcement in concrete slabs and the feasibility of optimisation for more than a single load case. Work will also be done on the specification of a user-friendly interface suitable for use by design engineers.
