|
The proposed research will develop pitch tracking and sequence recognition algorithm technology to produce interactive electronic musical learning aids that teach musical performance skills and recognise tunes. The pitch tracking algorithm will be developed from a prototype designed during EPSRC project GR/H46299 and will feature a novel pitch period voting system that is robust in noise and is very fast as it requires no multiplications. The sequence recognition algorithm will be developed from a patented ratio coding technique and a novel neural network structure also conceived in EPSRC project GR/H46299. The algorithms will be incorporated into a real-time audio processing algorithm suite and applied to music tuition, performance-enhancement, musical transcription and copyright revenue protection. These capabilities will be tested using music students to iteratively refine the technologies. Our industrial collaborator, The Technology Partnership, will assist in identifying other application areas and potential clients to exploit the technologies.
