Summary on Grant Application Form
An understanding of micromixing is important in a number of industrial chemical processes, for example polymerisation where the micromixing behaviour will affect the molecular weight distribution of the product. Existing models of micromixing processes are based on a qualitative understanding of the behaviour of turbulent flows. The project aims to develop a novel mathematical model for micromixing processes which will link the kinematic approach used for deterministic flows with the qualitative approach for turbulent flows. This will provide a deeper understanding of micromixing processes and an analytical framework which can be used to quantify the effects of micromixing, for situations where the flow field is accessible.
