Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposal is to develop, verify and deliver for use by industry a complete CFD capability for simulating turbulent flows around complex structures in the presence of a free surface. The work will be based on on existing code, developed with MTD support to simulate complex flows, A time accurate moving grid technique will be used to track the free surface using multi-block, body-fitted coordinates. Turbulence modelling will be via a choice of a two-equation model and a complete Reynolds stress transport closure. Data from free surface flows will be examined both in order to improve understanding of the physics involved and suggest turbulence model improvements.
