The mathematical theory of spatial stochastic systems involves the study of four models for spatial disorder. In the present proposal, we aim to study systems having phase transitions, especially those arising in the study of ferromagnetism, and the modelling of epidemics and polymers.This aim will be prosecuted on a number of fronts. For percolation, we plan to study the nature of the phase transition and initiate a mathematical theory of rigidity percolation. For epidemics, we intend to study the phase structure of generalised spatial epidemic models. For random-cluster models (and others) we aim to understand the exponential decay of correlations. For random labyrinths, we aim to study the asymptotic properties of the displacement after large times. And finally we wish to extend known results to greater generality in Whittles polymerisation model.It is unrealistic to be confident of extensive progress on all these four fronts over a short time period. In striving for these targets, we shall develop computer software for simulating and displaying spatial systems. We hope to discover and exploit new methodology, and to communicate our discoveries to a wide audience.
