Summary on Grant Application Form
The project combines fundamental studies of the CdTe-Cds system with a detailed study of the electroposition route to thin film II-VI solar cells. The collaboration between Bath, Cranfield, BP Solar and Pilkington will provide new information on the structural and electronic properties of films prepared by electrodesposition, facilitating a breakthrough onto AM 1.5 efficiencies of 15% and beyond. The CdS-CsTe phase diagram will be established ad the diffusion of S,T,C1 in CdS/Cte will be characterised. The kinetics and mass transfer on the electrodeposition process will be studied ad elctrodeposited films will be characterised fully. Test cells will be fabricated and measured by BP Solar. Pilkington will provide alternative substrates for the deposition process. Novel structure (e.g.CdS free CdTe cells) will be fabricated and tested.
