Summary on Grant Application Form
A multi-sensory Virtual Environment Integration Laboratory is being established to address the key research issues behind virtual reality (VR). This knowledge will be of significant value to UK companies who want to either develop the enabling technologies or who would like to incorporate VR into their design process. The laboratory will address the performance requirements of the enabling technologies when integrated together. Real benefits are expected to occur when various technologies are optimally integrated, taking into account the specific requirements of various applications. Equipment is required in the form of an industry standard high performance computer to host the research investigations. Additional support peripheral devices are either already available or will be provided by the enabling technology suppliers. The equipment is crucial to a research programme that intends to be industrially relevant.
