Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research is to complete a study of the controllability of superconducting magnets, funded in the first instance for two years (GR/J40089). The aim is to apply direct control to iron-cored HTS magnets for applications such as Maglev, Active Magnetic Bearings (AMB) and electro-magnetic actuators in general, and the research is to understand fully the dynamic properties of such magnets, to determine how to optimise the magnetic circuit design, and to identify the prospective benefits for engineering applications.
