Summary on Grant Application Form
This project is part of a joint proposal with teams at Heriot-Watt University and the University of Essex. The overall proposal is concerned with the provision of a Core Simulator Engine which will allow the sub-systems of an unmanned underwater vehicle to be integrated and simulated where necessary. The vehicle sub-systems are an example of a complex real-time system and the degree of interaction between them requires a high level system wide interconnection mechanism which will allow sub-systems to be integrated into the system in a seamless manner. This particular proposal is concerned with a simulation architecture which will provide a flexible framework into which software models of the physical world and vehicle components can be inserted. The framework will allow some software models to be exchanged with physical hardware produced towards the end of the programme. The simulation architecture will be a tool for specifying and evaluating new vehicles which may be part of any TUUV3 follow up programme.
