Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposal concerns the development of novel catalytic films for the disinfection of water using photoelectrochemical techniques in a new approach. The catalytic aspect of the proposal centres on the fabrication of Fe-doped TiO2 aerogel films. It is proposed to determine the range of pathogens susceptible to inactivation by the technology, and so assess if the photoelectrochemical approach represents a general disinfection method. The kinetics and mechanisms of the inactivation process will be explored, as will the possibility of solar operation. Various photoelectrochemical reactor designs will be investigated to check that the technology is amenable to scale-up.
