Summary on Grant Application Form
The research project has three principal components concerned with a) the laser devices and their characteristics, b) the optimisation of the systems architecture and c0 the role of radio over fibre in UMTS and FPLMTS. In the laser device area, interest will focus on the linearity and frequency responses of the two laser types in order to achieve adequate dynamic range to handle UMTS candidate powers, frequency allocations and modulation schemes. Reciprocity to support duplex operation is also an important aspect. The laser performance characteristics will impact on the optimisation of network related aspects.
