Summary on Grant Application Form
We will develop a computer-based image acquisition and automatic control system for transmission electron microscopy (TEM) addressing not only the very high resolution mode, but also (for the first time) the steps necessary for other modes, together with start-up and shut-down procedures. The (PC-based) computer system will be capable of image capture from both conventional and CCD cameras up to 1024 pixels square, with a simple scripting facility for programming sequences of microscope operations, and network provision for rapid image export to, and limited microscope control from, remote computer systems. The developments will improve the productivity of TEMs in all modes, and their resolving power in the most demanding applications.
