Summary on Grant Application Form
This research programme will focus attention on ultrafast electronic and optical processes in semiconductor nanostructures and devices. Near-field optical spectroscopy will be developed to investigate single quantum wires and dots. Exciton dynamics and quantum electrodynamical effects will be investigated in microcavities and vertical cavity surface emitting laser structures. Non-linear optical processes in semiconductors and organic crystals will be used to generate femtosecond squeezed states of light. The generation of photon number states in low-threshold emitters such as quantum wire and microcavity lasers will be investigated. The generation of squeezed light by commercial lasers and LEDs will be investigated, and applications will be evaluated.
