Summary on Grant Application Form
Dust transport in Mechatronic/Electronic equipment will be predicted using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The performance of different dust transport models will be assessed by comparison with experimental measurements. To correctly predict dust transport, velocity fields must be accurately established. CFD prediction of velocities and temperatures inside Mechatronic machines is impractical without geometric idealisations. Generic features found in Mechatronic machinery will be identified, and idealisations developed using measurements and CFD. These, idealisations will be implemented in a CFD program, tested, refined and then used as input to dust transport models.
