Summary on Grant Application Form
This is a joint proposal from ICSTM and RAL to continue the very successful work on the intera.ction of intense short pulse lasers with solid targets. The upgrades presently being undertaken on VULCAN and TITANIA will enable experiments using sub-picosecond pulses at unprecedented values of Il^2. All the experimental and diagnostic techniques which we developed and successfully applied in our previous work will be used again with refinements and extensions e.g. optical probing at 4w, neutron spectroscopy based on scintillator/PIN arrays. Existing collaborations will continue.
