Summary on Grant Application Form
19F MAS NMR with proton decoupling is a novel area which requires further development to prove its potential for solving chemical problems. In this project, two-dimensional techniques will be implemented to obtain optimum resolution and information not otherwise available. Triple-channel 1H/19F/X experiments will also be activated. A range of fluorinated systems will be examined to establish the limits of applicability, specific applications are proposed to (a) fluorosteriods, fluorinated adamantanes and fluoroaromatics; (b) trialkyl and triaryltin fluorides, together with other Sn-F and P-F compounds, and (c) fluoropolymers, including variously processed forms of PVDF, viton (a hexafluoropropene/ vinylidene difluororide copolymer) and halar (ethene/chlorotrifluoroethene coploymer).
