Summary on Grant Application Form
The synthesis of mixed donor thioether-aza macrocycles will be undertaken and their potential for cation-anion complexation under low pH conditions monitored. The effects of varying ring-size, number of donor groups of the macrocycle and peripheral groups will be investigated. Complexation studies with a variety of first row transition metal cations and counter-anions (sulphate, nitrate and phosphate) will be studied. Solvent extraction studies will be undertaken in order to define the feasibility of this approach to simultaneous cation-anion binding and extraction.
