Summary on Grant Application Form
The standard Scantron Proscan 1000A is a non-contact 3D measuring system which uses a laser based displacement probe for z-axis measurement, with a precision stage for x- and y. The modified machine will include a rotary stage with precision chuck, coupled to the x-y stage. The combination of rotary and linear stages will enable complete systems to be measured and analysed. Examples of on-going research where this is particularly useful include roll texturing, where both roller and rolled sheet can be studied, bearing systems, looking at both shell and journal, and non-conventional machining, looking at tool and workplace.
